Did you know that despite composing half of the population, only 23% of commercial films in the United States are produced by women? Only 7% are directed by women, and only 8% are written by women. The WAM!Boston Film Festival looks to showcase and celebrate the latest films by up and coming female filmmakers.
We’re seeking both short and feature-length films in all genres for a one-day film festival, focusing on films by and about women. The festival will be held on Saturday, March 24 at the historic Brattle Theater in Cambridge, MA. All subjects are welcome – drama, comedy, documentary, experimental – the sky’s the limit! We only ask that your submission does meet the following criteria:
- Film must be directed and/or produced by a female and/or transgender filmmaker
- The story/topic of the film should feature women, or be about an issue of concern to women
- The film was released in 2009 or later (in order to highlight current works), with preference given to films that are released in 2011 or to be released in 2012.
In order to create dialogue, we will also give extra points to filmmakers who can attend the screening (or send someone integral to the film) to discuss their film. Please note, WAM! cannot reimburse travel expenses.

Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, November 1, 2011. If your film is selected for the festival, you will be notified in January, 2012. Good luck!
