Ever wish you could get more involved in making women’s words matter in the media? Well, we’ve got three great shots to do just that. We’re in the process of hiring WAM! INTERNS for Winter/Spring 2012. Could it be you or someone you know?

WAM!Central Intern

Help us create gender justice in media by joining the crack team at WAM!Central Office. Specifically, we’re looking for folks who want to do any or all of the following:

  • Connect our Women, Action & the Media (WAM!) programs to new communities
  • Blog about gender & media issues on our website
  • Solicit new businesses and organizations to offer great benefits to our members
  • Create video and other media that communicates our mission to key communities
  • Help organize, promote and execute WAM! It Yourself, our annual decentralized conference
  • Help develop & launch our new WAM!CAN Community Action Network
  • Gain crucial office skills

Good candidates must be willing to commit to 10-15 hours per week, including time for supervision. Fearless in the face of detail. Computer/internet savvy (Mac especially) very helpful. We are not able to offer a stipend but are happy to work with schools to help you earn college credit. Feminists of all colors, cultures, identities and orientations encouraged to apply.

WAM!Boston Film Festival Intern

Description: A wonderful opportunity for a student interested in film, event planning, marketing, and women’s issues. You will play an integral, hands-on role in the organization of the 3rd WAM! Film Festival, which presents films made by women, and about women, held at the Brattle Theatre in Cambridge on March 23-24.

Film Fest Intern Duties:

  • Contact filmmakers for festival logistics and promotional materials
  • Write descriptions of films for festival website, program, and marketing materials
  • Assist with festival marketing — public relations and social media
  • Contact local businesses and organizations about sponsorship opportunities
  • Distribute flyers and postcards
  • Assist with other festival logistics and WAM! duties as needed – must be available the work the festival, Sat & Sun March 23 and 24

Skills needed:

  • Being highly organized is a must
  • Strong writing skills is a must
  • Good customer service/people skills/comfortable on phone
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel)
  • Prior experience with marketing/promotions a plus
  • Interest in film, event planning, and marketing
  • Be able to work independently

Bonus points if you’ve got graphic design skills (Adobe Creative Suite) and access to graphic design/layout programs. Good candidates must be willing to commit to 5-10 hours per week, with more during peak times, including time for supervision. Film Festival will occur in late March, and hours/week will intensify in the weeks before the event. Fearless in the face of detail. WAM!NYC Events Intern

Are you an ace event planner with a passion for women and media issues? Do you want to use your skills to help build community among feminist media-makers in NYC? Here’s a chance to do just that! We’re looking for a Winter/Spring intern to play an integral, hands-on role in the chapter’s activities, including the organization of one of WAM!NYC’s key annual events, the WAM!NYC conference. Could it be you or someone you know?  Specifically, we’re looking for someone to:

Duties will include:
  • Collaborate with WAM!NYC Board to plan program and invite panelists and speakers
  • Design or work with partners to design visual promotional elements for events
  • Do outreach to key bloggers, organizations, listings sites, etc to ensure wide promotion of events
  • Connect with local businesses for discounts or donations of food
  • Connect with local businesses and organizations for raffle prizes
  • Create program and other printed materials
  • Manage registration
  • Manage technical, A/V logistics for presenters
  • Organize event-day volunteers
  • Take the lead on event-day logistics
Skills needed:
  • Being highly organized is a must
  • Clear and responsive in communication
  • Good customer service/people skills/comfortable on phone
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Word applications and Google Documents
  • Interest in event planning and marketing
  • Be able to work independently and be dependable
  • Graphic design skills a plus
