WAM! is thrilled to announce that, thanks to your dogged activism and support, Clear Channel has agreed to lift their ban on South Wind Women’s Center’s radio ads! After generating 68,000 petition signatures, thousands of tweets and over a dozen media hits, and on the eve of a petition delivery action at the Clear Channel offices, the media conglomerate reversed course and agreed to run the ads.
Everyone deserves to know where they can access safe, legal reproductive health care. The staff at South Wind risk their lives every day to provide these services in Wichita, and WAM! is proud to have stood alongside them in the fight to ensure that their message isn’t censored and that their services remain available to everyone who needs them.
None of this would be possible without the WAM! community–your emails, tweets, calls and petition signatures. We’re also grateful to our allies at UltraViolet and Credo who helped spread the petitions. Just as with WAM!’s action to hold Facebook accountable to their own hate speech policies, this victory demonstrates that together, we really do have the power to change the media institutions that shape our lives and our communities.
We’ll be back next month with a new WAM!CAN action, so stay tuned. But for now, I hope you’ll take a moment to feel proud and powerful.
