Join us March 25 and March 27 for two unique WAM! It Yourself events around Chicago as we promote gender justice in the media through discussion, and connection…and hopefully a little dancing!
Meet and greet and discussion on the growing media phenomenon of sexualizing young girls
Thursday, March 25, 6-8 p.m.
Location: Noble Tree Coffee and Tea, 2444 North Clark Street
For a little background info, check out the following:
- The intro to Jean Kilbourne’s new book, So Sexy, So Soon
- “Lost youth: turning young girls into sex symbols” from The Guardian
- “The truth about teen girls” from Time
There are a number of quick eats around Noble Tree, so feel free to bring a little dinner to go along with your coffee or tea (and they have Bobtail ice cream)!
Drinks and Dancing in the Windy City
Saturday, March 27, 9pm-til….?
Location: TBA on Thursday 25
Join us for an informal night of drinks (and dancing) somewhere in Chicago…this is an opportunity for us to connect, have fun, and de-stress a little. Once we get an idea of where everyone’s coming from, we’ll try to find a more centralized location for us all to meet in the future.
If you have any questions on any of the Chicago events, please feel free to contact April: aprilscissors@gmail.com or Maya: maya@truthout.org. Check out the Facebook events page here.
